In 2016 Consumer Research magazine noted an interesting trend: about 12% of all tweets by celebs were just the phrase, “I’m so busy, there’s no time left for life at all!” But the story is the same, it doesn’t matter if the person is famous or not. Take a look around your neighborhood. There are probably a few people who are always busy. They work really hard and give it their all… and they’re really scared to rest?
There is now a whole society where “doing nothing,” whether it’s a long nap or a book in the evening, is seen as a terrible sin. People feel like they need to be doing something important all the time or else they will lose their status. What happens at the end, though?
Stress, Tiredness, and Sadness
The balance between sleep and rest is very important in the work culture of big companies, and for good reason. When someone is constantly overworking too quickly, they start to feel the bad effects of this way of life:
First, long-term tiredness sets in. The worker starts to “slow down” and make mistakes as their work becomes less productive and their thoughts become boring. This is called professional burnout. Because the brain is always overloaded, it unconsciously tries to get things back to normal. We “look for someone to blame” in order to do this, and we find them: work gets in the way of your rest? That’s the trouble! The person doesn’t want to do the work; he has to be forced to do it. It will get harder and harder to get through each day, and after a while, that person will be unable to do much work.
At the same time, health problems like sleepiness, trouble focusing, and worsening of long-term illnesses start to show up. The body will stop being able to handle the weight at some point and begin to fall apart.
The outcomes are always awful. People get them at different times, and some can handle them longer than others. But in the end, the stress is too much, and they break down. For now, all you need to do to avoid these kinds of problems is give yourself time to rest.
What Employers Should Do?
Being in charge of how your employees work is one of your main jobs as a boss. Controlio an employee monitoring software gives you all the information you need to do this, but what do you pay attention to? But if you want your employees to be at their best, don’t let them overwork. It’s getting easier now that employees have hours. There are always people who work too much and can’t afford it:
Some people put things off for a week and then try to finish a big job in two days; some people can’t handle the work (maybe because they don’t have enough skills or experience); and some people are way too responsible and always try to do too much.
Because of this, you should look at both people who do too little and too much in your Controlio data. The system has a good view of all the people who are working too much. Pay attention to these people, find out why they are doing this, and consider whether this worker will collapse under the weight of their work. If you can, you might want to fire him. Productivity analytics isn’t that important; what matters is that you get work done. And this idea doesn’t fit with the “cult of employment.” Help your workers find a good mix between work and rest, and they’ll do great work for you!
